This is a copyrighted image that has been released by a company or organization to promote their work or product in the media, such as advertising material or a promotional photo in a press kit.

I, (Onomatopoeia 13:05, 4 December 2006 (UTC)), am aware that this image is copyrighted by nba.com. However, I assert that use of this image in Wikipedia is legal under the fair use rationale:

It shows one of the greatest basketballers ever, Bill Russell. Including an image of him in his Wikipedia article would greatly enhance the article.
There seems to be no free alternative to this fair use image.
The image was prior released to the public by the NBA.
It does not infringe the NBA's possibilities to sell their products in any way.
The image is too low-resolution and too small to be used by copyright infringers.
It depicts Bill Russell in the 2000s, portraying him in a contemporary way. An image of how he looks today would improve the article. He arguably looks different than in his NBA playing days of 40 years ago.

The image was proposed for deletion as a replaceable fair use image. The result of the debate was to Keep the image as no adequate free-licensed image image exists or can be created.
