Ruqayyah Waris Maqsood

Ruqayiyah Waris Maqsood, a British Muslim author, served as Head of Religious Studies at William Gee High School, Hull, England. Her original name is Rosalynn Rushbrook. She married poet George Morris Kendrick in 1964 and the had a son and daughter, but later divorced. In 1990 she remarried a Pakstani Waris Ali Maqsood but later divorced. Before embracing Islam in 1986, she was a Protestant Christian who earned a degree in theology and wrote on Biblical themes for several mainstream publishers. Maqsood has written over forty books on various aspects of religion, including a book on counseling for Muslim teenagers and a volume of poetry. Her most well-known and admired book is entitled The Muslim Marriage Guide. She is a Muslim feminist and has a keen interest in Islamic history and promoting knowledge of Islam to non-Muslims.
