Rupununi River

The Rupununi River is a river in southern Guyana, originating in the Kanuku Mountains. The Rupununi River drains into the Essequibo River but is also part of the Amazon River watershed. During the rainy season it is connected to the Takutu River by the flooded Pirara Creek, draining the vast swamps of the Parima or Amaku Lake.

The Rupununi River is a last stronghold for the threatened Black Caiman (Melanosuchus niger). ^{[citation needed]}
