Rune Bratseth

Rune Bratseth, born March 19, 1961 in Trondheim, Norway is a former football player. He was named Norway's Golden Player - the best Norwegian footballer of the past 50 years by the Norwegian Football Association, in November 2003 to celebrate UEFA's Jubilee. [1]
Bratseth is mostly known for playing as a libero in the German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.

He started his career in the Norwegian club Rosenborg. He played for Rosenborg from 1984 to 1986.
Bratseth was transferred to Werder Bremen in 1986. He was an instant success in the Bundesliga. Bratseth and Werder Bremen won the German league in 1987/88. He was important when his club was runners-up in the German Cup twice in a row, in 1989 and 1990, and finally winners in 1991, beating 1. FC Köln in the final.
Brathset's finest moment came when Werder Bremen won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1992, in a 2-0 victory against AS Monaco FC.
Werder Bremen and Bratseth won the German League again in the season of 1992/93.
He retired from professional football in 1995. He has then played 230 matches in the Bundesliga, and scored 12 goals.

Bratseth made his debut in the Norwegian national team in 1986. He was a regular in the team until 1994, when he retired from the national team. Bratseth was capped 60 times.
During the Football World Cup 1994, Bratseth was captain of the Norwegian squad.

When he retired, Bratseth became chairman and general manager of Rosenborg, forming a successful partnership with coach Nils Arne Eggen. Rosenborg has been the dominant team in the Norwegian Premier League ever since Bratseth was appointed.
