Rumpleteazer

Rumpelteazer (alternate spelling Rumpleteazer) is a character in T. S. Eliot's book Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats and Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Cats.

Rumpelteazer and her partner in crime, her twin brother Mungojerrie, specialize in petty theft and mischief. In Eliot's original poem "Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer", they are depicted knocking over Ming vases and stealing items from their human family. Although they work for Macavity, they're not bad as him, in fact they act more like clowns than criminals, and are probably some of the most important members of the Jellicles.

Onstage, Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer are usually costumed as orange, black and brown calico cats, but no matter their appearance, they almost always look the same. Rumpelteazer often wears a string of pearls that are reference to in their song. In the original Broadway production, Rumpelteazer doubled as another character, Etcetera. In other, smaller productions, she still does, and she and Mungojerrie may double as the other less important set of twins, Tantomile and Coricopat. The song "Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer" was originally sung by Mr. Mistoffelees. This was changed a few years into the run of the show. In addition, two distinct versions of the "Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer" music exist; one is upbeat, the other has a slower tempo.

Rumpelteazer was portrayed by Jo Gibb in the CATS movie.
