Why do we need the names in other languages for this particular fish? That's not something we usually do (for the good reason that the linked articles in other languages should provide them, so there is no need). If there is a reason for including them, then it should appear in the article. If it's just a trend you'd like to start, it probably ought to be discussed in Talk:WikiProject Tree of Life. A lot of species handbooks do do this, but they don't have the possibility of linking through to native versions as wikipedia does - and nor do they recognise the very long list of languages that we do. seglea 06:33, 23 Mar 2004 (UTC)
The reason why the languages are on this particular page is because it is a showcase for the use of {msg":..}. As to the use of these messages they do need to be discussed and I will start the discussions when the groundwork has been laid in the de: en: and nl: wikipedias. GerardM 09:34, 23 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Eventually they may be removed, however we do use them in the nl: wikipedia though for fish. It also provides for a place to have all the vernacular names for an organism in one place. GerardM 09:34, 23 Mar 2004 (UTC)
The Ruffe is an example of the use of messages to display the names of the taxons. Therefore it is appreciated that this aspect of the taxobox is left as is. GerardM 05:49, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)

UtherSRG has returned the taxobox to the standard we are currently using in en:Wikipedia. However GerardM had asked that it be kept as an example of the message format. I believe that Uther's action is right, because the non-standard version has been on the page for some weeks and no discussion has got going. So I have moved Gerard's version here to keep it available. Anyway it seems more appropriate for something that is being used as an example for discussion to be on the Talk page. Note that Uther's version still serves as a perfectly good example of the use of messages to facilitate translation between wikis. For similar reasons I am moving the "names in other languages" section here; for reasons stated above, I think this section is a bad precedent - though the information is valuable, Wikipedia has better ways of providing it. BTW wouldn't it be good if the "Other languages" links could automatically give the name of the article in the other languages? seglea 06:13, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)
