Captain Rudy Ransom (played by John Savage) is a Starfleet officer in the fictional Star Trek universe, appearing in the Star Trek: Voyager's "Equinox". He commands the USS Equinox.
Ransom was an exo-biologist who was promoted to captain after making first contact with the Yridians, a species the United Federation of Planets previously thought was extinct.
In combat situations, when threatened, Ransom tends to hide and wait out his enemies: in 2367, his ship spent three days in a nebula hiding from a Klingon Bird of Prey, and two years later, his vessel hid from a Romulan vessel in a gas giant's atmosphere.
In 2370, Ransom commanded the Nova-class science vessel USS Equinox when it was pulled into the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker. The first week in the Delta Quadrant, he ordered the ship through Krowtonan Guard space, leading to the deaths of 39 crewmembers -- more than half the crew. Ransom later endorses the crew's enslavement of the Ankari as a power source. Ransom is killed when the Equinox suffers a warp core breach caused by a retributional Ankari attack.
