Dresdensia was the first organization which uses this stadium. Because it lay in the middle of the center of Dresden, were 500.000 Reichsmark approved for the extension to the Illgenkampfbahn (Illgen-Fight-Course).

At the 23.September 1952, the Rudolf Harbig Stadion was opened again with the currently name of the athlet.

At the year 1951, the ministry of state-security (Staatsicherheit shortly: Stasi) took over the stadium. The compltion then took place in 16.June 1923. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Dynamo Dresden. The stadium is able to hold 28,500 people and was built in 1923. In summer of 1971 it was renamed Dynamo-Stadion. Only since 1990, this stadium carries the name of the athlete Rudolf Harbig again. Throught expansive the capacity rose from summer 1976 on 36.000 and from starting the summer Break of 1980, tue capacity was growed to 38.500 places.


At the Sept. 29th 1990, Dynamo Dresden sign up an untilization-contract with the committee for the dissolution of the office of national security of the GDR an for this stadium. After all, the club carries the full costs now. According to newest DFB and FIFA norms, this Stadion was modernized in summer 1990. The official capacity reduced itself to 32.500 spectators. In the transition areas between straights and curves, seat-areas were set up. Installed was for it individual seat-peals instead benches.The old lawn was replaced throught a new roll-lawn. This was the first lawn it was renewaled, since 1956. Carried was the amount of 375.000 Euro by the City of Dresden. Since january 1th 1992, if there were money-problems and the Stadium belonged again the City. Regarding the security (for players and referees) measures were taken, for mostly increase and reinforcement of the palisades.

At the September 3th, the new floodlight was opened with the match versus the football national team of the GDR. The contruction works were executed by PGH Electro-Construction Dresden wich their boss-engineer by the VEB Ship-Repair-Shipyard Berlin Factory Tangermünde. With a hight of 60 Meters, a inclination of 20 degrees and 60 tons per mast. Per mast with six stages, which are equipped with 26 x 6,7 lux headlights.

At the July 6th 1979, the scoreboard switched on for the first time. At this time, the Oberliga-Match took place versus the 1. FC Magdeburg. The Display device consists over 4.333 lamps. Today, this blackboard is steered by a high-tech personal computer. The software was developed extra for it, in 1994.
