Ruby (Landry Series)

Ruby is the first novel in the Landry Series, written in 1994 by V.C. Andrews. In an interview with Andrew Neiderman recently, he says that he and the publisher are in talks with the Lifetime network to do a TV series on one of the book series, possibly the Landry series.

Ruby is just a young teenager that has been living with her traitur Grandmere Catherine. She lives in a small swamp village in Louisana. Ruby has a wonderful artistic talent and has sold some of her paintings to a gallery in New Orrleans at her and her Grandmere's roadside stand for the tourist. That is how they make their money. She also has a Grandpere Jack but he lives out back in a shack. Ruby has never met her mother because she had died giving birth to her and she has never met her father who may very well still be alive.
Ruby begins to have a realtionship with a boy named Paul. Paul parents hate the fact that he is dating a "poor" girl. But after her Grandmere sees that the realtionship is getting more serious she tells Ruby the shocking truth...Paul is her half brother. Sad and angry she has to do the only thing that is right and break up with Paul whom she was falling in love with. Paul is also anger and thinks that Ruby has broken up with him for another boy. They don't talk for along time. But finally Ruby can not take it anymore and tells Paul the awful truth, they have the same mother. Paul does not believe this until his father tells him the truth. Her Grandmere is getting sicker and sicker until she finally passes away.
With no one now except her Grandpere Jack who is a drucken fool she decides to flee to New Orleans...To find her father. Before her Grandmere passed she told Ruby about her father and more secrets too. Her mother had become pregnant after a result of a loving afair with a Creole man named Pierre Dumas. But Pierre was already married so her parents both made a deal that the child would stay and live in the bayou. But her drunken Grandpere made a deal with Ruby's Grandfather Dumas to sell the child for an amount of money and Pierre's wife would pretend to be pregnant. When her mother Gabrielle gave birth...but Grandmere Catherine knew that it was going to be twins by how big she had gotten. She gave the first baby to Grandpere Jack and kept the second baby Ruby. She did not tell Jack but when he came back and wanted the other baby she sent him to live out in the swamps and to never come by the house. And that was the secret she had a twin sister. Her Grandmere Catherines only wish was for Ruby to find her real father. So after Grandpere Jack tried to sell her to a man for a large amount of moeny she decided to live to New Orleans. With the help of a women on the bus to New Orleans she found her father's address and went to his house. Standing at the door she met Beau Andreas. He took her into the house because he had mistaken her for Gisselle.
She is accepted immediately by her father but not by her twin sister and her stepmother Daphne. The Dumas' concoct a plan that Ruby was kidnapp as a baby from the hospital by some Cajuns. Ruby is thus brought into Creole society. But her twin sister Gisselle is extremely rude to her and gets her in loads of trouble. Beau Anddreas is Gisselle's boyfriend but Ruby and Beau become closer and closer until they are together. Her sister gets a new boyfriend. His name is Martin Folwer. They spend time smokeing pot and do so will driving getting them into a car accident and crippling Giselle. Ruby has to wait on her hand a foot. Daphne is doing anything she can to get ride of Ruby because it is a constant reminder to Pierre's affair. Ruby's father decides that it may be best for them to attend a private school in Baton Rouge.... Greenwood.
