rPath, Inc. is a technology company based in Raleigh, North Carolina that provides software for building virtual appliances. The company was founded in 2003 by a group of individuals who were not content with the current state of Linux distribution development. rPath's goal is to simplify software customization, and facilitate divergent software development with the ability to track changes in the upstream source code of external projects. CTO of rPath is Erik Troan, who developed the RPM Package Manager at Red Hat.

[edit] Conary

rPath are the developers of the Conary software packaging and management software. Conary is the core of many of rPath's other products, such as rBuilder Online, and combines package management and Software Configuration Management methods to manage software packages.

[edit] rBuilder Online

rBuilder Online is a free public service provided by rPath, with the stipulation that any development work done using rBuilder Online becomes public as well. rBuilder Online enables you to create a specialized Linux distribution based on Conary through a web based interface. The resulting distribution typically includes a subset of existing packages available in the rPath Linux repository, but a distribution may also be built from the ground up. Software packaged with rBuilder Online as part of a custom distribution can also be used by individuals using other distributions.
