[edit] History
In 1853, R.D Kinney came to the then territory of Minnesota from Vermont as a missionary to the Native Americans. Soon after arriving he built his house on the location of present day Royalton. The post office then appointed him postmaster and asked for suggestions for names for the post office. Kinney suggested Royalton because it was the name of his home town in Vermont and the post office took his suggestion.
