The Royal Knights are a group of thirteen powerful Digimon in the Digimon: Digital Monsters series. Founded by Imperialdramon Paladin Mode, their purpose is to keep order within the Digital World - their view of order, that is. The Royal Knights do not always fight for a good cause but in the cause they believe to be right. Generally, they are conservative and favor the status quo. They only reveal themselves at times where the Digital World is in a dire crisis.

[edit] Appearances
[edit] Digimon Adventure & Zero Two
Two royal knights and the founder have appeared in the Digimon 01 and 02 series’.
- Omnimon has made two movie appearances:
- In Our War Game (second part of the English Digimon movie version). Omnimon was formed by DNA Digivolving Taichi Kamiya’s WarGreymon and Matt Ishida’s MetalGarurumon to fight and later defeating Diaboromon.
- Omnimon was later shown in Revenge of Diaboromon (Diablomon Strikes Back) to defeat the reformed Diaboromon. When Diaboromon was defeated, all the Kuramon travelled to the real world and digivolved together into Armageddemon. Omnimon battled a second time but was defeated.
- Magnamon has also made two appearances:
- He had an appearance in Digimon 02, episode 20 “The Darkness Before Dawn” when Davis Motomiya evolved his Veemon using the Digi-egg of miracles to defeat Kimeramon.
- Magnamon also appeared in Hurricane Touchdown (third part of the English Digimon movie version) to defeat Cherubimon (Virus).
- Imperialdramon Paladin Mode appeared in the movie Revenge of Diaboromon (Diablomon Strikes Back). He was formed after the defeated Omnimon gave Imperialdramon Fighter Mode his Omni Sword (Omega Blade). This allowed him to digivolve to Imperialdramon Paladin Mode and defeat Armageddemon.
[edit] Digimon Tamers
Two royal knights have appeared in Tamers:
- Gallantmon
- After Guilmon was wrongly digivolved by hate to Megidramon. Takato was able to bring him back to his rookie form, Guilmon. He and Takato bio-merged and formed Gallantmon defeating Beelzemon.
- Omnimon
- Appeared in The Adventure’s Battle movie, as the guardian of the real and digital world’s. He helped Henry, Terriermon, Rika and Renamon travel to Takato's location when they fought Gulfmon.
[edit] Digimon Frontier
In Digimon Frontier the Royal Knights were considered the enemy of the DigiDestined. Only two Royal Knights are shown in Frontier, they are Dynasmon and Crusadermon. They were recruited by Lucemon to obtain Fractual Codes for him to be revived. In return Lucemon promised that he would give the two safe passage to the Real World so that they could sample "human data" and make Earth theirs to rule.
Dynasmon and Crusadermon easily overpowered EmperorGreymon and MagnaGarurumon in their first and later clashes with the DigiDestined, due to this they were able to complete many tasks. When Lucemon was resurrected, he sent the Knights to eliminate the kids. Unfortually after many battles with the Knights the DigiDestined (mainly EmperorGreymon and MagnaGarurumon) were able to finally defeated them. But before either of them could purify the Knights Fractual Codes, Lucemon appeared and absorbed them and became Lucemon Chaos Mode.
Notes:
- In Frontier it is the first time that the Royal Knights position of whether they are good or evil has come into light and questioned, or if some of the Knights go on their own agendas. This is backed up by Baronmon being shocked, saddened and angered when they first appeared. He also states that "at one time the Royal Knights did fight for justice".
- But in later research and investigation it has appears that while the actions of the Knights may seem traitorous and evil, their overall intentions are to keep the Digital World safe and could possible see the Real World as a threat
- It is theorized by some fans that the Royal Knights were among the Digimon that fought Lucemon prior to his defeat at the hands of the Ten Ancient Warriors. During his imprisonment he somehow recruited Dynasmon and Crusadermon to his services in a manner similar to Cherubimon.
[edit] Digital Monster X-Evolution
The number of Digimon in the Digital World has gotten out of hand and it began to overwhelm the memory of its host computer, Yggdrasil. To eliminate the overpopulation, Yggdrasil created the X-Program to destroy the Digimon it left in the 'old' Digital World. However, another program, called the X-Antibody, began to make Digimon immune to the X-Program upon absorbing it. With these "X-Digimon" entering the 'new' Digital World, Yggdrasil sent the Royal Knights, mainly Omnimon to hunt down and destroy these abnormal beings, as well as conducting Project Ark; a genocide of X-Digimon and those who supported them. During the movie only four Royal Knights appear, Omnimon, Magnamon, Gallantmon, and Alphamon.
Notes:
- Alphamon is considered the "Lord of the empty seat" as he holds in his possession of the "Alpha-Gain-Force". He is destined to rule the Royal Knights but to be forever absent from their ranks. Thus his fate is to only make temporary appearances wherever his aid is truly and really needed.
- Omnimon is the leader of the Royal Knights and upholds Yggdrasil commands, whether they are against his better judgement. He later regonises Alphamon's position and follows his orders. After Alphamon reverts back to Dorumon, he regains his leader status with a clearer mind.
- Omnimon and Gallantmon are close friends and as a result Gallantmon is Omnimon's voice of reason. Later when the two could not agree on Yggdrasil plan, the two had a duel. Omnimon was devasated as Gallantmon let him win and Gallantmon died as a result, this made Omnimon seriously question Yggdrasil actions and Project Ark.
- With Gallantmon and Omnimon both digivolving to Gallantmon X and Omnimon X with the "x-Antibody" their positions as "royal knights" remain. This shows that their postions remain unchanged with evolutions or changes from the Mega levels.
- Death-X-mon is Alphamon "shadow", basically Yggdrasil split Dorumon data into two pieces of data, one went back to Dorumon and the other formed Death-X-DORUghoramon. Hense why Alphamon and Death-X-mon felt the same pain.
[edit] Digimon Savers
In the second Digimon Savers opening, a segment shows nine of the Royal Knights standing on a cliff with moon shining behind them. The image highlights five known Digimon that have already appeared in the series Gallantmon, Omnimon, Crusadermon, Dynasmon, and Magnamon), the others have been blacken out. Below is a list of the positions that shows where they are, the list goes from left to right starting on the back row:
- Back Row: Alphamon, Sleipmon, Crusadermon, Gallantmon, Craniummon, Dynasmon and UlforceVeedramon
- Front: Omnimon and Magnamon
It is unclear at this time, what role, if any they will play in the series.
Note: It should be noted that if they indeed do play a part in the series, this will be the first time that Alphamon and UlforceVeedramon are animated, not by CGI or manga form.

Notes:
- Even though this accounts for the Digimon Series this does not account the Cards or manga series.
- Video Game appearances should not be entered into this section.
- Until they appear in a Savers episode, don't enter "Savers" in the "what series the Royal Knight appeared in" section
[edit] Trends
Each Royal Knight that has appeared have certain trends that link them together or even give possible hints towards the other Royal Knights.
- In Digimon Adventure, Zero Two and Digimon Tamers all the Leader digimons are Royal Knights, they are also the most powerful hero Digimon that appears in the series:
- Tai - Omnimon
- Davis - Imperialdramon Paladin Mode and Magnamon
- Takato - Gallantmon
The only exception is Digimon Frontier and Digimon Savers, where it appears that neither of the main characters digimon are or yet to be mentioned as a Royal Knight, such as Susanoomon or Masaru's Agumon
- All Royal Knights are Mega level, except for Magnamon.
- On the cards most of the Royal Knights have "Exalted Knight" in the "type" section but there are certain exceptions, such as Rapidmon (Golden Armor) as he is not a mega and also doesn't fit the profile for a Royal Knight.
