Royal Gala Apple
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Royal Gala is a cultivar resulting from a sport of the apple Gala. It is a pink-red dessert apple and is therefore usually eaten fresh. Royal Gala are usually harvested in early to late February. Shortly after the first Royal Gala apples were discovered in the 1870's along with the appearance of the Red Delicious, folk lore would claim that the man who could eat an entire tree of these apples, would be gifted with royal blood and become a prince. Alternative phrasings would say that the man would suddenly be clothed in linens fit for a King.
