Royal Deeside Railway
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Royal Deeside Railway was formed by a preservation society with the intention of reclaiming part of the Great North of Scotland Railway branch from Aberdeen to Ballater, in Scotland. Work is underway to reinstate the railway between Banchory and Milton of Crathes, although delays in satisfying planning requirements and receiving approval from the local council have held the project up.

The first sections of platform have now been completed at Milton of Crathes and permission has just been granted to move the former station building at Oldmeldrum to the site.
The first public passenger trains since 1966 ran during the August 2006 "Steam & Vintage Rally" which takes place in the field opposite the railway. These used Class 03 Diesel No. D2134 and an LNER Brake Van. These will be on offer again during December 2006, on Saturdays and Sundays (11:00am until 16:00pm) ending on December 24th, and again during the 2007 opening season from April onwards.
The RDR is also in negotiation with Aberdeen City Council to open a Railway Heritage Centre in the former Caledonian Railway Engine Shed at Ferryhill in Aberdeen.
