Royal Canadian Corps of Signals

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Royal Canadian Corps of Signals (RCCS) was a support unit of the combat arms]] of the Canadian Army. Its soldiers were assigned to infantry units, and were usually airborne qualified. Not only was a Signalman required to know Morse Code, type, set up and repair radio equipment, but had to parachute in with it. This also required jumping with snowshoes, rifle, personal equipment and radio... the radio was usually a cumbersome c-52 set.

When a Russian radioactive satelite went down some years ago in the Northwest Territories, a lone Canadian Signalman was parachuted in to recruit natives, and find it. In World War 2, the Signal Corps operated a microwave transmiter between France and England.
