From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Roy Edward Casagranda, Ph.D. University of Houston (2007), M.A. University of Houston (2002) B.S. University of Houston (1994), is currently an adjunct professor of Political Science at Austin Community College. He appears to currently be on the job market (http://gov.casagranda.com/CV). He is primarily a Political Philosopher who has been classified by some as a post-modernist. His research emphasis attempts to bridge the boundaries between political philisophy, American Politics, Middle East politics, and international relations. His is a student of Donald S. Lutz and Ross M. Lence.
Professor Casagranda's dissertation, Politics and Meaning in the Age of Instrumentality creates a new model for understanding action. His thesis states that the US has subordinated the political and normative realms to the economic realm and as a result it has essentially rendered most action in the US meaningless and apolitical.
His ratings from ratemyprofessors.com seem to indicate that he is a force of entertainment as well as information in the classroom.
As of November 10, 2006 he has 34 ratings with an average rating of 4.5 and comments like the following: "This guy is a walking encyclopedia and a stunning professor. Come prepared to defend your ideaology. You'll never want to miss a lecture due to incredible academic AND entertainment value. He's very fair when it comes to grading and willing to work closely with his students. great guy all around"
It appears that he has been arrested protesting both US wars against Iraq (i.e. 1991 and 2003).
He also appears to be a wargamer, especially Advanced Squad Leader. In fact he is currently ranked 7th on the Texas Club ladder.
He has been a SETI contributor since May 18, 1999.
Casagranda has presented at several Polticial Science Conferences.
He has also contributed to The Iranian Times.
