Rowley, East Riding of Yorkshire
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rowley is a small village in the East Riding of Yorkshire, just South of Little Weighton, approximately 5 miles South West of Beverley.
The village is now mostly depopulated, leaving only a few houses. In 1638, Rev. Ezekiel Rogers, a local preacher, was suspended from the parish church for his non-conformist puritanical beliefs. Following this, he led 20 families to emigrate to United States, where he founded the town of Rowley, Massachusetts in 1639.
