Rowlett is a city in Dallas County and Rockwall County, Texas, United States. The population was 44,503 at the 2000 census.
Rowlett is a quiet upscale bedroom community near Dallas, Texas in the Metroplex, located on Ray Hubbard Lake.

Rowlett is located at GR1.
(32.907020, -96.547415)According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 52.4 km² (20.2 mi²). 52.4 km² (20.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (0.10%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 44,503 people, 14,266 households, and 12,354 families residing in the city. The population density was 849.4/km² (2,200.2/mi²). There were 14,580 housing units at an average density of 278.3/km² (720.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 81.81% White, 9.01% African American, 0.49% Native American, 3.33% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 3.53% from other races, and 1.78% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.76% of the population.
There were 14,266 households out of which 53.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.3% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 13.4% were non-families. 10.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.09 and the average family size was 3.33.
In the city the population was spread out with 33.5% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 36.9% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 5.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 97.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $70,947, and the median income for a family was $73,417. Males had a median income of $49,394 versus $35,286 for females. The per capita income for the city was $26,144. About 2.2% of families and 3.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.3% of those under age 18 and 3.8% of those age 65 or over.

The Dallas County portion of Rowlett is served by the Garland Independent School District, while the Rockwall County portion is a part of the Rockwall Independent School District.
Back, Dorsey, Giddens-Steadham, Herfurth, Keeley, Pearson, and Rowlett Elementary Schools, Coyle and Schrade Middle Schools, and Rowlett High School are located within the city boundaries of Rowlett. Garland ISD has a free choice program that allows for a student to attend any school within the district.
