Rowing at the 1984 Summer Olympics
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rowing at the 1984 Summer Olympics featured 14 events in total, for both men and women.
Due to the Eastern Bloc boycott of these Olympics, some of the strongest rowing nations like East Germany, USSR or Bulgaria were not present. This boycott however gave opportunity to the Romania, which was one of the few east Europe countries that came to the Games, to dominate in woman's disciplines, winning 5 gold medals in 6 events.
Sir Steven Redgrave won his first of five consecutive gold medals. Elisabeta Oleniuc, latter known as Elisabeta Lipa, also won her first gold medal. Twenty years latter she will win her fifth gold medal on 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
