Merge per Smartyshoe and Shuki. I think the use of the Naomi Shemer quote is not totally appropriate for this road, as the road from Jerusalem by Jericho (south of it actually) to the Dead Sea is for the most of the distance the west-east road. gidonb 20:31, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Some casual research does not have the song Jerusalem of Gold relating to a Dead Sea Highway but rather, "And no one descends to the Dead Sea By way of Jericho." Should I suggest the 'dead sea' article be deleted entirely? --Shuki 23:38, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Yep, it is not a correct concept for a redirect. The way of Jericho from the song is really by route of near Jericho, largely on the Jerusalem to Allenby Bridge road only turning south direction Dead Sea south of Jericho. Not that it would matter much to have such a redirect, but strictly speaking the Highway should be entirely deleted. gidonb 02:01, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, but that translation is not very accurate. Derech in Hebrew is most often translated to road, but route is also good. Regards, gidonb 01:18, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

In short... Dead Sea Highway ia a creation of stupid translator and never existed in reality... neither route 90 or the eastern part of route 1 (Jerusalem-Jericho) should be refered as highway.--User:Nitsansh 20:24, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Spelling

As Israeli roadsigns are notorious for their misspellings, I don't see the problem writing "Gandhi's road" instead of the incorrect "Gandi's Road," since that is what he (and the road) were called. Cheers, Tewfik^Talk 19:42, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't believe that the roadsign is good evidence of what the MoT has actually named it. While his memorial website (Hebrew Language) is http://www.gandi.org.il/, the only published reference I could find is an Amira Hass OpEd, which uses the Gandhi spelling, though I acknowledge that that is hardly definitive.
