Round Lake is a village located in Lake County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 5,842. A 2003 special census, however, revealed the population to be 10,160, and estimated to be 14,803 as of 2005.

Round Lake is located at 42°21'15" North, 88°6'2" West (42.354045, -88.100529)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 9.3 square kilometers (3.6 square miles). 9.1 km² (3.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.68% water.

As of Census 2000, there were 5,842 people, 2,029 households, and 1,540 families residing in the village. The population density is 640.8/km² (1,659.8/mi²). There are 2,137 housing units at an average density of 234.4/km² (607.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 81.86% White, 1.99% African American, 0.39% Native American, 1.92% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 10.78% from other races, and 3.03% from two or more races. 22.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,029 households out of which 43.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.8% are married couples living together, 12.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.1% are non-families. 18.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.88 and the average family size is 3.28.

In the village the population is spread out with 29.8% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 38.8% from 25 to 44, 16.7% from 45 to 64, and 5.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 30 years. For every 100 females there are 101.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.8 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $58,051, and the median income for a family is $61,277. Males have a median income of $43,063 versus $31,336 for females. The per capita income for the village is $21,585. 6.8% of the population and 6.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 6.7% of those under the age of 18 and 7.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

The village is one of the fastest growing in the state of Illinois, having grown to well over 16,000 by 2006.

Round Lake students attend schools in the Community Unit School District #116, which includes Round Lake Senior High School as well as Round Lake Middle School, and several elementary schools. The school district in general is renown for its poor education system.

Magee Middle School closed in 2003, a bond referendum to fund its renovation was passed in 2006.
