Rotary-wing aircraft

A rotary-wing aircraft is a broad category of any aircraft with a moving wing. This distinguishes them from fixed-wing aircraft.
Rotary wing aircraft includes helicopters, autogyros and gyrodynes (also known as heliplanes. tilt-rotor (or tilt-wing)) aircraft which have the rotors horizontally to provide vertical take off but orientate them vertically to drive normal flight and use conventional lift surfaces are an intermediate form.
An ornithopter is neither a fixed-wing nor rotary-wing aircraft.
