Ross Oakley

Ross Oakley (born 1942) is an Australian businessman most noted for his stint as the chief of the Victorian Football League & Australian Football League.
He held the position, taking over from the position of Jack Hamilton in 1986. He was deeply involved in mergers, such as the 1989 Fitzroy merger, but he was a key figure in the infamous 1996 Fitzroy-Brisbane merger, the last year he was in charge of the AFL.
Oakley's focus was on increasing Australian rules football's focus in not being overtaken in popularity by sports such as rugby league and rugby union, which were increasing in popularity at the time of his appointment in 1986.
He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Melbourne Business School.
