Ross Gelbspan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ross Gelbspan has written two books relating to global warming-- "The Heat Is On" (1997) and "Boiling Point" (2004). The Heat Is On received national attention when then-President Clinton told the press he was reading it. Boiling Point was the subject of the lead review in the Sunday New York Times Book Review. That review was written by former Vice President Al Gore.

Prior to his involvement in the climate issue, Gelbspan worked as an editor and reporter at a number of newspapers, including The Philadelphia Bulletin, The Washington Post and the Boston Globe. At the Globe, as special projects editor, he conceived, directed and edited a series of articles which won a Pulitzer Prize in 1984.

[edit] False Allegations From The Carbon Lobby

Gelbspan's first book, The Heat Is On, revealed the fact that a number of so-called "greenhouse skeptic" scientists were receiving substantial payments from the coal industry. Those payments were not publicly disclosed until Gelbspan published their details. In response, the fossil fuel lobby circulated accusations that Gelbspan was a resume fraud who had never been co-recipient of a Pulitzer Prize. In response, Gelbspan posted six confirming documents on his website -- and published them in the introduction to Boiling Point. He believes that the self-proclaimed "skeptics" resorted to a false campaign of character assassination because they were unable to find any factual errors in his book. [1]

Since becoming involved in the climate issue, Gelbspan has delivered an average of 40 lectures, about 50 radio and television interviews and has published about 15 articles each year. He has published op-ed articles in a number of major newspapers -- as well as articles in a number of other outlets including Harper's, The Atlantic Monthly, The American Prospect, Sierra Magazine, The Nation and many others. He has spoken in many venues, including The World Economic Forum and the Boston Social Forum. His media interviews include, among others, appearances on Nightline, All Things Considered, Talk of the Nation, NOW, ABC World News Tonight and many other outlets.

He has worked extensively with various environmental groups and business organizations around the country. His website -- www.heatisonline.org -- receives more than 150,000 discrete visits a year.
