Rosopsida
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rosopsida is the botanical name at the rank of class: this name is formed by replacing the termination -aceae in the name Rosaceae by the termination -opsida (Art 16 of the ICBN). The class will necessarily include the family Rosaceae, but it is not otherwise fixed. As is true for any botanical name the circumscription of this class will vary with taxonomic viewpoint.
For the angiosperms, the English Wikipedia has adopted the APG II system: this uses botanical names only at the level of order and below. Above the rank of order, APG II uses its own names, such as angiosperms, eudicots, monocots, rosids, etc. In the APG II system (and therefore in the English Wikipedia) this class Rosopsida is not taxonomically defined.
There appears to be no reputable taxonomic system that does use this name, but it is found on the internet, especially within non-english Wikipedia's and associated projects.
An exception is the Reveal system where it consists of:
- class Rosopsida
- subclass Caryophyllidae
- subclass Hamamelididae
- subclass Dilleniidae
- subclass Rosidae
- subclass Cornidae
- subclass Lamiidae
- subclass Asteridae
