[edit] Shooting incident

On February 23, 2006, 14-year-old freshman student Vincent Leodoro shot and wounded a fellow student, 16-year-old sophomore Joseph Monti. Subsequently, Leodoro attempted to enter a restaurant, where a worker locked the door, then put his handgun to his head, and then surrendered to police[1].

[edit] Marine recruiter claims he was assaulted

In May 2006 a Marine recruiter claimed "a Roseburg High School student had spit on him, and that the school then told the recruiter the student was just expressing his First Amendment rights".

Various versions circulated on the Internet, generating widespread controversy[citation needed]. The story appears to have been a fabrication by the recruiter.[2]
