Based on the original character, Rose Red appears in the Fables comic book. She was estranged from her sister Snow White for many years, partly from jealousy at her sister's greater fame. At one point Snow White survived a wound that would have killed almost anybody else, and the Fables believe that the more popular a person's story is, the harder that person is to kill permanently. When she became the administrator of the upstate New York "Farm" residence for non-human-looking Fables, and thus became Snow's equal in rank, the sisters reconciled, and Rose now happily dotes on her nieces and nephews. She was involved with Jack o'the Tales (of Jack and the Beanstalk and Jack the Giant-Killer fame) for some time, mainly as a way to irritate her sister, who disapproved of Jack. She dumped him immediately after losing the desire to deliberately irritate her sister. For a time, she was involved with Wayland Smith.

Rose Red is also the name of the 2002 Stephen King movie.
