[edit] Biography

Her father was a doctor, specializing in fertility treatments and nutrition, and her mother was an acupuncturist. Although she is from Mexico, she currently lives in the city of Hawthorne, California. She has five siblings, Sofía, Gabriel, Berenice, Francisco, and Cristóbal. The women in the León Oviedo family had always been active in music, and Rosalía was no exception. However, she was not always successful, and she claimed that her greatest frustration in life was her rejection from the National Conservatory of Mexico. This affected her so deeply that she never played the guitar, the instrument she had tried out with at the Conservatory, again. After this rejection, she returned to formal studies. During this part of her life, León Oviedo comments that she was seen as somewhat different by her classmates at school, although this did not hurt her socially. She had many friends in school, and was even the star player of her school's volleyball team.

Her family life was generally positive throughout this time, with strong relationships with both of her parents. León Oviedo says that she viewed her father as her hero, and and that the bond between her and her mother was the defining force in her adolescent life. She has said that one of her goals in life is to find some way to repay her parents for all that they have done for her.

When she was 18 she married an older man, and this marriage failed after a short time. The two moved to the United States on order to seek out different prospects, although the two remained on good terms after the divorce.

She appeared on the reality television show La Academia, taking fifth place in the second generation of the show. Although unpopular at the beginning of the competition, she eventually won over many fans[citation needed].

Shortly after La Academia in 2003, Rosalía competed in Desafio de Estrellas, and lasted until the eight concert, in which she was eliminated, achieving twelfth place among the 32 contestants.

More recently, in 2006, she competed in the second version of the Desafio de Estrellas, being eliminated in the second concert along with César Robles from the third generation of La Academia, and Cecilia Gallardo, a non-Academia contestant.

Also, in 2006, along with Estrella (from La Academia first generation) and boyfriend Freddy (also from La Academia second generation), Rosalía is participating in a tribute album to Argentine rock star Fito Páez.
