Rory Brady

Rory Brady is the current Attorney General of Ireland. He was born on 20 August 1957, He sat his Leaving Certificate in 1975. Going on to study law in University College Dublin where he was awarded a Bachelor of Civil Law Degree in 1978. He was called to the Irish Bar at The Honorable Society of King's Inns in 1979. On 6th June 2002 he was appointed as Attorney General by the President of Ireland, on the nomination of An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern T.D. He is also a Member of the Irish Council of State since June 2002.

He has held a number of Professional Positions. These include:

  • Former tutor in Business Law in the Faculty of Commerce at University College Dublin
  • Called to the Bar of England and Wales (Middle Temple) 1986

Called to the Inner Bar of Ireland in 1996

  • Chairman of the General Council of the Bar of Ireland (October 2000 - June 2002)

He has also been a membership of Statutory Bodies within Ireland, these include:

  • Member of the Courts Service Board (October 2000 to June 2002)
  • Chairman of the Censorship of Publications Board (December 2001 to June 2002)
  • Member of the Garda Síochána Complaints Board (April 2002 to June 2002)
