Ronson's Lighters
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ronson Lighter's Ronson's was a large factory making gas lighters in the town of Leatherhead, Surrey. The factory was between the east bank of the River Mole and Randalls Road.
[edit] History
During World War II, the plant was switched from lighter production to 24hr Ammunitions production, but reverted back after the war.
In the late 70's, with production costs becoming too high and the appearance on the market of cheap disposable lighters on the market Ronson's decided to wind things down in Leatherhead.
The plant closed in the early 80's, the workers arriving one morning to find the gates shut.
[edit] Today
The factory was torn down in the 80's, and is now a Mole Valley council business park.
Ronson Lighters are still sought-after. Many fine examples of ronson lighter's, can be found on E-bay.
