Ronno
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ronno is a male deer who appears in Disney's movie Bambi as Bambi's rival. He was only in one scene in the original movie as the nameless buck who fought with Bambi over Faline. He was named in related literature and in the midquel, Bambi II, which greatly expanded on his personality.
[edit] Personality
[edit] Bambi
In Bambi, Ronno was a nameless character, essentially a cypher. He was evidently older and stronger than Bambi as evidenced by his darker appearance, slightly larger build and the greater number of points on his antlers. He challenged and fought Bambi for the mating rights to Faline, but after initial dominance in the fight he was defeated.
[edit] Bambi II
In Bambi II, Ronno was a much more extensive and more frequently seen personality. He was in essence the forest bully, frequently picking on Bambi and never hesitating to torment the young prince over his mother's death and shaky relationship with his father. He also made frequent jabs about the fact that "Bambi" is a girl's name. It seems likely that his actions were motivated by jealousy, and he did have reason to be jealous, since Bambi A: had friends and B: lived with his dad, whereas if Ronno was anything like most fawns he would never have even met his father and, in all likelyhood, had no idea who his father was. He was also probably jealous of Bambi's title as the "young prince," considering that he was shown to be impressed by Bambi's dad. The possibility of jealousy is further evidenced by the fact that, as in the first movie, he attempted with no sucess to win Faline's attention and affection by means of brute force. All in all Ronno was essentially a classic bully: bullying because he wanted attention.
In stark contrast to these there is the Ronno in the book on which Bambi was based, who was almost as different from the Ronno in the movies as Bambi himself was. In the book, Ronno was old enough to be Bambi's father, as opposed to being only a week or two older as seen in Bambi II. Also, the book Ronno was quite an honorable character, to the extent that he was something of an idol to young Bambi. In the book, there was nothing the least bit personal about his and Bambi's fight over Faline. Ronno politely asked the young prince to simply step down so they wouldn't have to fight. The only reason they did fight was that such was the decree of nature's law.
