Ronald Edward Springs (born November 4, 1956 in Williamsburg, Virginia) is a former American football running back in the NFL. Springs played eight seasons, six for the Dallas Cowboys (1979-1984) and two for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1985-1986).
Springs attended Coffeyville Community College in 1975. His 2,047 yards rushing remains a school record. The following year he enrolled at the Ohio State University, where he played three years under head coach Woody Hayes. Springs led the Buckeyes in both rushing (1,166 yards) and receiving (16 catches for 90 yards) in 1977. In 1978 he was elected as a team co-captain.
Springs is the father of current Washington Redskins cornerback Shawn Springs.
Ron is a diabetic and needs a kidney transplant, his son Shawn offer to end his career to donate a kidney but Ron wouldn't allow him. It was announced that former teammate and friend, Everson Walls will donate a kidney. ESPN story
