Ron Sommer

Ron Sommer (* July 29, 1949 in Israel, Haifa )

His mother is a Russian and his father a German.

He studied mathematics at the University of Vienna, earning his doctorate (Dr. phil.) in 1971 with 21 years.

Mr. Sommer began his professional career 1973 in New York at the small computer company 'Q1 Corp.' which was taken over by the German Nixdorf Group in New York, Paderborn (Germany) and 1977-1979 Paris.

In 1980 he was appointed Managing Director of the German subsidiary of the Sony Group. In 1986 he became Chairman of the Management Board of Sony Deutschland, and was subsequently appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of Sony Corporation of America in 1990. In 1993, Mr. Sommer served at Sony Europe in the same function.

From May 1995 to July 2002, he served as Chairman of the Management Board of Deutsche Telekom AG.

Mr. Sommer is a member of the Board of Directors of Motorola, a member of the Supervisory Board at Münchener Rückversicherung (Munich Re) and since May 2004 Celanese, and a member of the International Advisory Board of The Blackstone Group.

Since May 2003, he has been serving as Chairman of the International Advisory Council of Sistema. In June 2005 Mr. Sommer was elected a non-executive independent member of the Board of Directors of Sistema.

He is married and father of two children. He is interested in art and a fan of cars.
