Romesh Batra

Dr. Romesh Batra is a Professor in Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics at Virginia Tech. He has made contributions to Continuum Mechanics and Nonlinear Elasticity and has published over 220 journal articles widely read and reputed referred journals.
He was born in India and completed his bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from University of Punjab in 1968 where he won the "Gold Medal" for being first in three states. He went on to pursue higher studies in University of Waterloo, Canada. For his doctoral studies, Romesh Batra joined Johns Hopkins University as the student of reputed Dr. J. L. Ericksen and graduated in 1972. His dissertation was titled "On Non-Classical Boundary Conditions".
He worked as a Post-doctoral Fellow at Hopkins for a year, and also at McMaster University, Canada for a year before joining the University of Missouri–Rolla as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Fall 1974. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1977 and to full Professor in 1982. In 1994, he joined Virginia Tech (Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University) as the Clifton C. Garvin Professor of Engineering Science and Mechanics.
