Romancing SaGa 3 is a Squaresoft role-playing game released exclusively for the Super Famicom system in Japan. It is the sixth title in the SaGa series. The game was noted for having a less linear (albeit less developed) plotline than its cousins, Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger. It is also notable because it was fan translated through means of emulation.

[edit] Story
Every 300 years the Death Eclipse occurs: The Star of Death blocks the sun, and all newborn life dies, nothing can escape this fate. However one day, a baby survived, grew up, and became the Devil King. The Devil King opened the Abyss Gate and unleashed 4 Demon Lords from within: Arakes, Forneus, Byanei, and Aunas. One day he vanished and nobody heard of him again. After that the world was ruled by the Demon Lords. 300 years later the Eclipse happened again, a baby survived and became the Holy King when he grew up. Supported by Allies he was able to seal the Demon Lords in the Abyss and the Abyss Gate was closed. 300 years after that, the Death Eclipse hit again a decade before the game starts, the world wonders; what will the next king be? Will it be a Devil King or a Holy King?
[edit] Gameplay
The gameplay is similar to other console RPGs of the era, but with several notable differences. For example, instead of 'level ups', characters stats increased individually depending on their participation in a battle. Also, a character has a certain amount of 'LP'; it was decreased when a characters HP went below zero or when they were hit without any HP. If the LP of a character was zero, they would be unable to battle.

- Playing as Mikhail**
When you choose to play as Mikhail, you will start with a mini-war campaign (this will be echoed later on in the game for him). Some of these war campaigns must be won or the player loses the game. In these battles, the player controls a band of soldiers instead of individual characters. The player issues commands (forward, quick forward, rush, defend, retreat, morale up, etc). The point of the battle is to advance to the other side of the map (the player starts on the right and must advance to the left).
[edit] Main characters
When you begin you choose from eight characters to be your 'main'. The main character will always be in the party and have several advantages and some have disadvantages as well.
Julian, a bright, green haired swordsman.
Thomas, a merchant who will soon inherit his father's wealth.
Mikhail, the arrogant but talented marquis of Loanne.
Harid, a dark mercanary, and a swordmaster without parallel.
Sarah, a quiet, shy archer. Ellen's sister.
Ellen, an aggressive, powerful axewoman.
Monica, a regal and dedicated princess and Mikhail's sister.
Katrina, Monica's bodyguard, who feels obliged to hunt and return a stolen sword.
[edit] Skill development
The game also introduced an intricate skill development system; at the onset, the player would choose a class and specialized weapon.
Classes:
Hunter: Focuses on Speed, Dexterity, and a little on Strength.
Scholar: Focuses on thinking and a little on Speed/Dexterity.
Royalty: Very good Charisma and Will, bad Speed and Dexterity.
Fighter: Focuses on fighting skill and Constitution.
Merchant: Has good Speed/Dex, not great Magic or Strength.
Weapons:
Sword Arts: Contains one-handed and two-handed swords, as well as scimitars and katana.
Spear Arts: Contains rapiers and spears, as well as lances.
Axe Arts: Contains axes and hammers.
Bow Arts: Contains bows.
Martial Arts: Unarmed combat.
