Romance of the West Chamber

Romance of the West Chamber (Simplified Chinese: 西厢记; Traditional Chinese: 西廂記; pinyin: xīxiāngjì) (record/story of the west chamber/room) is one of the most famous Chinese dramatic works. It was written by the Yuan Dynasty playwright Wang Shifu 王实甫(ca 1260-1336), when the country was controlled by the Mongols, as one of the many court entertainment plays of the time.
