Roman Weidenfeller (born 6 August 1980 in Diez, Germany) is a professional Footballer (Soccer Player) who plays for the German Football/Soccer team Borussia Dortmund.

Roman made his BVB debut against his former club 1.FC Kaiserslautern on 17 December 2003. The game was marked by a disastrous mix-up between Weidenfeller and one of his own defenders, with Kaiserslautern’s Lincoln gifted a goal. Weidenfeller returned to the reserves, but was given a second chance by Bert van Marwijk in October 2004 and this time made a better go of it. Borussia Dortmund’s rise in the second half of the 2004/2005 season is closely associated with Weidenfeller, whose reputation grew to that of one of the most highly regarded players in the Bundesliga. This rise in reputation led to speculation about a potential place on the national team: “The number three position (behind Kahn and Lehmann) is still available, and it’s another year until the World Cup” , the matured keeper declared. “He’s incredible, and he’s still improving. Even more better is impossible“ , Bert van Marwijk marveled over him. “Sensational”, is what team captain Christian Wörns says.

Weidenfeller was discovered in 1997 when he was voted best goalkeeper of the U-17 World Cup. He transferred from Sportfreunde Eisbachtal to 1.FC Kaiserslautern before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2002 to replace Jens Lehmann one year later.
