Roman Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls (Latin: Dioecesis Siouxormensis) is a Roman Catholic diocese in South Dakota. It was founded on November 12, 1889 by Pope Leo XIII and comprises that part South Dakota east of the Missouri River.

The past bishops of the diocese are:

  • Martin Marty (1879–1895) (Marty was previously the head of the Vicariate Apostolic of Dakota, which the Diocese of Sioux Falls replaced)
  • Thomas O'Gorman (1896–1921)
  • Bernard Joseph Mahoney (1922–1939)
  • William Otterwell Brady (1939–1956)
  • Lambert Anthony Hoch (1956–1978)
  • Paul Vincent Dudley (1978–1995)
  • Robert James Carlson (1995–2004)
  • Paul J. Swain (2006—).[1]
