The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of São Paulois a major see in the Roman Catholic Church in Brazil. The Doicese of São Paulo was erected by Pope Benedict XIV on 6 December 1745. It became an Archdiocese on 7 June 1908. The Archbishop Emeritus of Sao Paulo is His Eminence Paulo Cardinal Arns since 15 April 1998. The Archdiocese of São Paulo is currently without an Archbishop since the appointment of Claudio Cardinal Hummes as Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy on 31 October 2006.
