[edit] Plot
This play essentially retells Shakespeare's classic tale, with minor differences. The original Elizabethan English text is hardly used, almost everyone is aware of the lover's "secret" marriage, and their deaths are changed depending on productions. Lord Montague is only seen in the British production, and new characters, such as Death (French, Belgian, Netherlands, and Moscow productions only) and the Poet (French production only) are added for dramatic effect. Also, Lady Capulet has a greatly increased role, more often than not a voice of reason.
Gérard Presgurvic translated Shakespeare’s play into a musical dominated by pop and rock elements, keeping the text straight and lean and thus perfectly contemporary. This musical drama marries acting, dance and singing and grasps the viewer’s hearts and minds alike.
