Roll-your-own

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For the term in poker, see roll your own.

Roll-your-own (RYO) simply means to roll your own cigarette using loose cigarette tobacco and rolling papers. Many RYO products are conveniently sold as a pouch of tobacco with enough tobacco to prepare 40 hand-rolled cigarettes with the rolling papers provided in the pouch. Conversely, it is possible to buy the tobacco and cigarette papers of choice separately in a tobacco shop.

Roll-your-own has become increasingly popular as it's a lot less expensive to roll your own cigarettes then it is to purchase a pack of factory manufactured filter cigarettes. Sometimes it's as much as 80% less expensive then even a generic branded pre-made cigarette. This is due to the very low or non-existent taxes on bulk cigarette tobacco and rolling papers.
