Roko Sherry Chayat Osho

Roko Sherry Chayat Osho (1943 - present) is a native of Brooklyn, NY and is an American Rinzai Zen priestess. Throughout the 1960's Roko casually studied Buddhism while schooling at Vassar College and later The New York Studio School of Drawing Painting and Sculpture doing her graduate work. She began her formal Zen practice under Eido Tai Shimano at the Zen Studies Society in 1967 and also had a chance to study briefly with Soen Nakagawa and Hakuun Yasutani.
Maurine Stuart ordained her as a lay practitioner in 1985 at the Cambridge Buddhist Association in Cambridge, MA, and later was granted a position as a Dharma teacher by Eido Tai Shimano at the Zen Center of Syracuse in 1996. In 1998 she receieved inka from Eido, making her a Zen Master. She is currently the abbess of Zen Center of Syracuse (Hoen-ji) located in Syracuse, NY.
