Rokkasho, Aomori

Rokkasho (六ヶ所村; Rokkashomura) is a village located in Kamikita District, Aomori Prefecture, Japan.
In 2003 the village had an estimated population of 12,134 and a population density of 47.96 persons per km². The total area of the village is 253.01 km².
Rokkasho was a candidate to host the plasma fusion reactor ITER, but lost out to Cadarache, France.
Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited has a uranium-enrichment plant in Rokkasho.

In May, 2006 an international awareness campaign about the dangers of the Rokkasho reprocessing plant was launched by Ryuichi Sakamoto, with a home at www.stop-rokkasho.org.
