Your RfA
Rogerd, I posted a reply on the RfA page. I didn't mean to offend you; I hope my comments didn't come across as such. My apologies if they did! Take a closer look at the kind of stuff admins have to go through here. I don't really know you, but based on what I've seen here, I bet you'd grow sick and tired of the whole thing very quickly, which is a shame, since then we'd be also losing a good editor. It'll be your turn in the frying pan!:-)--MONGO 05:43, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
It was deserved before and will be more than deserved then...I do about 1 to 2 nominations a month so we can wait to whenever you wish, but I figure once Tom's passes (which I have confidence it will) I would like to make sure you get another shot at it. At 44 years on this planet, I feel like humiliation is MY middle name! Er, being nicknamed after a movie character that knocks a horse down with one punch, rips saloon doors off and likes candy just because I was big and liked to act goofy was kind of humilating too. Thanks for your support vote on Tom.--MONGO 05:56, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the quotes...I think I'll look for the full screen version of that (Blazing Saddles) and buy it...I'm not partial to wide screen...anyway I also remember..."Who's Mongo?" and the response..."Mongo's more of a what, than a who". I wonder how many editors here have felt I fit the definition of what over who, especially from when I first started. Anyway, best of luck...I think you'll do fine and we need all the good contributors we can get.--MONGO 04:45, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, Rogerd! I voted to support Your RfA nomination. As of this writing You have 42 votes. Keep in touch & good luck!! :) -- Eddie 12:19, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
Additional question
The only oppose voter has placed another question on your admin nomination. I think it should be up to him to find evidence he speaks of, and he also thinks an admin candidate needs a full year of editing experince...which would eliminate probably 75% of all the nominees...a rather stiff requirement. It's up to you to answer the question, but not mandatory.--MONGO 01:59, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Good question. I believe it is up to the opposer to provide the rationale for the opposition based on evidence. I doubt a single person would retract their support if you didn't answer the question, but I would if I were you. I do not see a hurry, it's the weekend afterall.--MONGO 05:42, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
No problemo
I probably should have asked you first, but figured you wouldn't mind...not bad..over 50 support...good show!--MONGO 03:46, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
Roger...I'm sorry I made some adjustments to your Rfa...it has been proven that another vote is of a sockpuppet so I made an additional comment there. Hope you don't think I'm trying to take anything away from you...promotion is on the immediate horizon anyway!:)--MONGO 05:12, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I saw that as well, didn't notice if the other late questioner bothered to vote either...I can't explain with the excellent answers you gave that it garnered only a neutral vote...I won't bother trying to figure that one out, but it seemed rather rude to be honest and a bit condescending.--MONGO 06:04, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
CONGRATULATIONS!
It's not official, but I wanted to be the first to congratulate you on your promotion...time to kick ass and take names...and sleep till noon!--MONGO 08:07, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia 08:39, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for supporting my RfA
Dear Rogerd: I would like to thank you very much for your support on my RfA. I am most honoured by the trust that has been placed in me by yourself and other members of the Wikipedia community, especially since I did not conform to the standard edit-count criteria usually expected of administrator candidates. I promise to only use my administrative privileges to assist the community in doing good work, and also to be calm, considerate and careful in working to make Wikipedia a better place. You never know, Wikimedical science might eventually come up with a cure for editcountitis; things like Spoken Wikipedia, where lots of work gets you 1 edit, is probably the closest thing we have to a vaccine :) I look forward to working with you on Wikipedia in the future. Best regards, --NicholasTurnbull | (talk) (e-mail) (cabal) 04:47, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
- In the interest of conserving headings, I guess I will just jump on the bandwagon and thank you for your support on mine as well. Also, it is good that you supported someone (above) that was low on total edits. I wish the tyranny of the edit count was not such a big deal and having a history of good faith and such was more important. Qaz (talk) 11:02, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

question about your comments on my RfA
"Oppose 40 edits in 11 months. Come back when you have had some experience here. --Rogerd 05:19, 14 October 2005 (UTC)"
I was wondering what edits had to do with the adminship I requested? not to mention, like I said in half of the articles I started under my userspace, that the only reason why they aren't in the main namespace is because wikibooks is too big of a mess right now and I don't have time to clean it up on top of my studies.
I don't mean to be rude or anything, but I'm just curious what any of that had to do with my basic understandings of the rules and just asking for admin for the specific purpose of being able to quickly revert vandalism when applicable (which doesn't matter at this point as I got the proper script from other admins) and to ban spammers. It often occurs in #wikipedia-en-vandalism where the same user or IP address blanks/adds a ton of useless text to ~20 different pages, but because people who do the reverts are trying to go after more vandalism and don't have the time to edit his discussion page they get left to keep on doing it. I just wanted access to stop that before it happens. The other thing I wanted to be able to do is delete the pages that come up that can't even qualify to be a revert, what good are those?
Please let me know why my lack of edits would affect my knowledge of how the process works when I monitor all mailing lists and talk to many people, both on irc, on the phone, and in person at wikimania all related to Wikipedia. (Preferably my userspace, but I'll try and monitor this) --AppleBoy Talk 06:57, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

From a new admin
Although it appears that posting thank you notes on your talk page for supporting an RfA is now de rigeur, I thought I'd add mine. Thank you for your interest in candidates for administration, even those, like me, you don't yet know. It has been my experience that users working together are a far more powerful antidote to the problems of Wikipedia than any of the shiny new buttons that now grace each page. So, let me know if you need support resolving conflicts. --Gareth Hughes 10:01, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

RfA comment
In my comments about PFA's RfA, I feel you misunderstood my comments. I certainly meant no insult. I would not do that.
- When I made that lighthearted comment, I had no idea of her age (and I still don't care)
- My remark about Christmas was merely to imply that the community may forgive her previous vandalism by December. I certainly will support it after some time passes. It was a joke! Lighten up.
- My contribution to her RfA, or to any RfA, has nothing whatsoever to do with my RfA. I harbor no ill will to anyone in wikipedia because of my RfA, in fact, I agree with some of the comments that the people who opposed it made. I am trying to address those concerns and may re-apply at some point in the distant future.
Again, I am not an insulter, flamer, or someone who has "sour grapes". I hope this clears this matter up. Please contact my on my talk page if you have any further questions. --Rogerd 01:09, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
- Don't worry - I am cool about it. It did seem sort of mean at the time. I never said you had sour grapes, I just found the comment insulting. I never meant anything personally to you. As she is young, it seemed like an implication that she was immature or believes in Santa Claus, I see that that is not the case. Please forgive me if I overreacted. I just lost an RfA and have deal with a very hostile editor who things random opposition is moral. I have no qualms. V/M

AFD voting
Can you kindly explain why you keep voting "Delete NN", even when this doesn't make any sense (eg. untranslated pages)? Alphax τεχ 02:05, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
- Without knowing which articles you are referring, I would say that I thought the article in question was not notable, or would be not notable if it were translated. I would say that is my most common, but certainly not my only vote comment. Please let me know which vote(s) you are talking about, and I will explain. --Rogerd 03:10, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
- [1], [2] and [3] - blanket voting is stupid and unproductive. Alphax τεχ 05:48, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
- Well, I suppose I should have said something original, but had agreed with the previous comments and I felt that those articles were "not notable" with respect to an english language encyclopedia. I don't know what you mean by "blanket voting", but thank you for calling me "stupid". --Rogerd 00:21, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
- No, I didn't call you stupid, just the voting pattern you're following. I call it stupid because:
- It doesn't add anything to the discussion
- In the examples I gave, it doesn't make sense
- There are no notability criteria.
- By "blanket voting", I mean "voting the same way without reason". It comes very close to making a point. Alphax τεχ 06:33, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
- Well, I had my reason, but you apparently just didn't like it. First you call me "stupid and unproductive", and now you say that I "disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point". Please, explain to me, and since I am so "stupid", don't use big words, how am I disrupting Wikipedia to illustrate a point? Gee, we are only talking about a couple of votes on some non-controversial AfDs. What are you going to do now, have me blocked for vandalism? --Rogerd 01:17, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
- Please, read it again - I said "blanket voting is stupid and unproductive". I didn't say "you are being stupid and unproductive". You're not the only one who does this. Yes, lots of crap goes through AFD. Some of it really shouldn't deserve much more than "delete, non-notable". We have a criteria for dealing with these as fast and as painlessly as possible. We also have two criteria for foreign language and transwikied stuff. We might as well use them. Alphax τεχ 02:09, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

- So you obviously understand my concerns... well, thanks anyway, but unless people's attitudes towards the whole un/deletion process change, we're still going to have a crappy encyclopedia, lots of people's time wasted, and stupid petty arguments like this one. If I still had a wikistress meter it would have just gone up a notch. Sorry for being such a moron. You're right, voting for me was stupid and unproductive. I should have left permanantly instead of for only 4 days. Alphax τεχ 02:09, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

- Thanks, I really appreciate it, but I was rejected for RfA only a month ago. They apparently thought that I spent too much time in the article space and not enough in the talk and project space. I was doing a lot of reversion even before that, but since then I have tried to participate in RfA, AfD and other project related stuff. I was thinking of not re-applying until December at the earliest. It's funny, after participating in RfA for a while now, how standards change a lot based on who is participating at any given time. I am also going to re-think my answers, some felt that I wasn't verbiose enough with my answers. Again thanks a lot for the offer, but could I contact you in a couple of months, and if you still feel so inclined, nom me then?

Hi, Rogerd. I just want to thank you very much for supporting my RfA, and to say also that I hope I'll make a good job of it. I'm supposed to be working on an assignment at the moment, and had delayed thanking people, but I'm finding the new rollback button so easy to use that I'm just keeping Wikipedia open on my browser while working on other things, and I thought I'd like to thank at least a few of my supporters while I'm here. Three weeks of admin tools
Today three weeks have passed since I was granted access to the administrator toolbox. During this time I have made use of it in the following way:
- Protections and unprotections: 1
- Blocks and unblocks: 4
- Deletions and restorations: 69
- Rollbacks: 246
I've found that the rollback tool is much more useful than I'd thought for vandalism patrol. In fact it makes that task so easy that I've been doing it more than before. On the other hand I've been surprised by how little the blocking tool is needed. Having done a significant amount of vandalism patrol I have still only blocked one solitary vandal. The great majority of addresses which send out a vandal edit do so only once. Those who do it more often usually stop after a warning or two. Only rarely is a block actually needed and in those cases someone usually beats me to it.
As a side note I haven't retired from writing articles either. I'm still hoping to bring Freyr up to featured status but even though I've already performed more edits on it than on Hrafnkels saga back in the day, a lot of work remains to be done. Community expectations for featured articles have gone up and so have my own ambitions. I'm currently waiting for a couple of books I ordered to arrive and then I may be able to make the final push.
I'm trying my best to live up to the trust you showed in me by supporting my RFA. If ever you feel uncertain whether I'm using the admin tools in the best interests of the project, let me know. I am at any time willing to relinquish the mop and reapply for it to address concerns people have and ensure that I'm not using the admin tools without being trusted to do so. Thanks for taking the time to vote in my RfA, which passed with a final vote of 54/2/1 despite my obvious inadequacy for the job. I'll do my level best to use the mop and bucket — or, as I said in my RfA, plunger — responsibly. Of course, in the best tradition of politicans everywhere, I've already broken a campaign promise (I blocked a vandal last night despite having said "I don't anticipate using the blocking tool very often"). Nevertheless, I'll try not to let the unbridled power corrupt me. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 19:22, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for voting on my RfA. It passed with a consensus to promote of 45/7/1. To those of you concerned about the fact that I am a relative newcomer, I encourage you to poke me with a sharp stick if I make a mistake. Or better yet, let me know on my talk page, and I'll do my best to fix it. Makemi 05:05, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for supporting/opposing/commenting on my request of adminship, sadly the result was 54/20/7 an thus only 73% support votes, resulting in that the nomination failed. As many of you commenting that I have to few main-space edits, I'll try to better my self on that part. If you have any ideas on what kind of articles I could edit, pleas send me a line. :) | →AzaToth

I respect your take on the TigerShark RfA, but surely you must see that he'd make a good admin with the record available now. You voted support on a similar RfA, for Tv316, similar in terms of current consensus, edit count, etc. I just found your vote to be interesting is all. --Jay(Reply) 03:05, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
- I see where you are coming from, but a few weeks seems rather picky considering the fact that TigerShark has made worthy contributions for over a year. Nonetheless, since you are very willing to support so near in the future, maybe neutral would be more fitting? --Jay(Reply) 03:40, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
RfA Results and Thanks
Rogerd, thank you for supporting me in my recent RfA. Although it did not succeed as no consensus was declared (final: 65/29/7), I know that there is always an opportunity to request adminship again. If and when that day comes, I hope you will once again support me. If at any time I make any mistakes or if you would like to comment on my contributions to Wikipedia, you are more than welcome to do so. Regardless of your religious, cultural, and personal beliefs, I pray that whatever and whoever motivates you in life continues to guide you on the most righteous path.

Seeking Editor Review Commentary (If You Like)
Hi. In conjunction with my RfA (that you voted on), I have created an editor review, to give people a chance to comment as to ways in which I can branch out or alter my contributions to Wikipedia. An RfA seems to solely focus on how one's temperment and contributions relate to how they might handle administrative powers (and the consensus on that seems to be that I'm not quite ready); the editor review opens things up a little more to a larger focus, and I'd love to hear community feedback in the sense of that larger focus, too. If you feel you've already expressed yourself sufficiently when casting your vote, then by all means don't worry about it, but if any thoughts come to mind or if you'd like to expound upon any suggestions or commentary, it would be appreciated. In any case, I appreciated you taking the time to express your opinion on my RfA, and I thank you for that. — WCityMike (talk • contribs) 19:52, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
My Thanks
I wanted to drop a brief note on your talk page (one admittedly not written to you only, but nevertheless truly meant) to thank you for your vote in my Request for Adminship, which concluded this evening. Even though it was unsuccessful, it did make clear to me some areas in which I can improve my contributions to Wikipedia, both in terms of the areas in which I can participate and the manner in which I can participate. I do plan on, at some point in the future (although, I think, not the near future), attempting the process again, and I hope you will consider participating in that voting process as well. If you wish in the future to offer any constructive criticism to me, or if I may assist you with anything, I hope you will not hesitate to contact me. Thanks again. — WCityMike (T | C) ⇓ plz reply HERE (why?) ⇓ 04:27, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for voting! Hello Rogerd, and thank you so much for voting in my recent RfA. I am pleased to inform you that it passed with a final tally of (119/1/3), into the WP:100, so I have now been cleared for adminship and will soon be soaring above the clouds. I was overjoyed, shocked, and humbled by the tally, and, most importantly, all the support. Thank you. If there is ever anything you need, you know where you can find me. Take care. |
