Rodríguez is a Spanish Patronymic (meaning Son of Rodrigo) and a common family name (surname) in Spanish, Latin America and other places. The "ez" or "es" signifies "son of". The name Rodrigo is the Spanish form of Roderick, meaning "famous power", from the Germanic elements "hrod", fame and "ric," power. Its Portuguese equivalent is Rodrigues.
