Rodovia Presidente Castello Branco (official designation SP-280) is a highway in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.
It runs in a Western direction, beginning at São Paulo city and finishing at Espirito Santo do Turvo. It is about 325 km long, and one of Brazil's safest highways. Main cities the highway passes by are: São Paulo, Barueri, Tatuí, Águas de Santa Bárbara. Near Barueri, due to the large population of Alphaville, a set of horizontal luxury condominia, it is one of the busiest and widest of São Paulo highways.
Initially known as Rodovia do Oeste (Western Highway), it was built in three phases, the first from 1963 to 1968 (São Paulo to Torre de Pedra, with 170 km), the second in 1971, until the crossing from São Manuel and Avaré (further 58 km), and the last and third, with 74 km, ending at the SP-225 highway near Espírito Santo do Turvo. Travelers going to Ourinhos and the northwest part of the State of Paraná often follow the Castello Branco-SP-225 route, leading to the mistaken belief that the Castello Branco highway ends in Ourinhos, which is not in fact the case. The map illustrating this article includes this mistake; the small red segment to the left of the noticeable "kink" in the road is actually part of the SP-225 highway.
It is named after the Brazilian president Humberto de Alencar Castello Branco.
The highway is managed and maintained by a state concession to the private companies SPVias, Rodovias das Colinas and ViaOeste, and therefore is a toll road.
