Rodney Jerkins

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins (born Rodney Roy Jerkins in 1977 in Pleasantville, New Jersey) is an American songwriter, record producer, and musician, working today in the genres of pop, R&B, hip hop and gospel. He is married to Pop singer Joy Enriquez-Jerkins. In 2006 Jerkins was appointed as VP of A&R for Island Def Jam Group and his label Darkchild Records will be an imprint under Island Def Jam Group.

Jerkins has produced a number of hits for artists such as The Spice Girls ("Holler", "Let Love Lead the Way"), Joe ("Don't Wanna Be a Player"), Brandy ("Top of the World", "What About Us"), Beyonce ("Deja Vu"), Brandy and Monica ("The Boy Is Mine"), Michael Jackson ("You Rock My World"), Destiny's Child ("Say My Name", "Lose My Breath", "Cater 2 U"), Toni Braxton ("He Wasn't Man Enough"), Rhona Bennett ("Satisfied"), Whitney Houston ("It's Not Right But It's Okay"), Mariah Carey ("So Lonely") and Jennifer Lopez ("If You Had My Love"). With his brother Fred Jerkins III and songwriter, vocal producer LaShawn Daniels, Jerkins is one of the main figures in Darkchild Productions, a production company and record label responsible for the hits by these and a number of other artists.

Contrary to rumours that have been circulating on the internet, Darkchild did not lose a considerable amount of weight via gastric bypass surgery. Rather, he has stated that a change in lifestyle is responsible for his new physique. His productions are featured on many current albums and new releases including those from Roc-a-Fella's first lady Teairra Marí, Disturbing Tha Peace artist Shareefa, and upcoming Def Jam R&B vixen Megan Rochell on "The One You Need". R&B singer Ray-J has also released as singles, no less than 3 Darkchild productions from latest album "Raydiation", including the massive "One Wish". He also most notably produced Mary J. Blige's latest single "Enough Cryin'" and Beyoncé's "Deja Vu".

Darkchild is known by many due to his name being inserted at some point in many of the songs he produces.
