[edit] REFORMA
Rockero, I am not sure what has been your involvement in the PROCESO article, I wanted to get a third party involved in a discussion that I am having with the main editor of the REFORMA article, and since I saw that you contributed in the former I would appreciate your contributions to the latter. Thanks man. --Andres lopez 04:34, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Leaving Wikipedia
Just a quick note to thank you again for the help you gave on that article, as well as to say that as of today I am no longer participating with Wikipedia. If you'd like to contact me, you may do so at either of these two email addresses: andrewparodi@aol.com or andrewmichaelparodi@yahoo.com Thanks again. -- Andrew Parodi 04:50, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] KUCI
What's your interest in KUCI? --evrik 18:59, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- I can't stand commercial radio, so I stream non-commercial radio at work. I discovered KUCI after giving up trying to find something good on KCSB. Now I stream it just about daily. I like "the Blues disease" (currently streaming), the Zydeco show, and "Uptown Top Ranking". The Salsa/Merengue show is decent when the DJs shut up and play the music, although Reggaeton has been creeping into their playlist. Are you a listener?--Rockero 19:07, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Alumnus. -evrik 19:15, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, I got a good laugh when you said:
¿Qué pasa Evrik? Thank you for the huelga barnstar. I am honored (*blush*). It's the first time I get one from somebody who is not raza. [1]

[edit] Sigüenza y Góngora
Hi Rockero, thanks for all the work on the Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora article. Interesting material, and I'd never seen it before.
I have one minor question. Was his father really born in America? I knew Carlos was, but I had assumed his father was from Spain, because of the royal tutoring.
Rbraunwa 01:53, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- The oversight can perhaps be attributed to haste. My sources mention nothing abut his birthplace, but a Continental birth is much more likely, given the timeframe and his position. I changed it to peninsular, only to discover the deficiencies in that article.
- I presume you are referring to S y G's theories about the origin of the Olmecs and the evangelization of Thomas when you say you found the new material interesting? Such theories were actually quite common, and it appears that SyG was one of the first to come up with them, or maybe just the first to popularize them. The Mormons were way behind. 8)
- One final note: I'm guessing that "book examiner" is your translation of "corregidor general". Is this correct? My English-language sources make use of the term "censor", which I can only guess is one and the same as corregidor general. I have added Censor (Catholic Church) to the censor dab page, in hopes of composing an article on the post, but refrained from linking it from the SyG article. If I am in error, please correct me. Thanks for your comments, and the pic looks great, --Rockero 02:45, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, if I remember correctly he was listed as corregidor general, but I'm away from my encylopedias now and can't definitely verify that. I'm sure I can find a copy of Enciclopedia de México in a library here (I'm in Los Angeles now), but it may be a little while before I get to that. "Book examiner" wasn't really my translation. I had no idea what the original term meant, but I found him referred to as "book examiner" on a web page, and I identified the two. I think it's safe to assume all three terms refer to the same office.

[edit] Cat:Indigenous Mexicans
Gidday Rockero, I've responded at my talk page to your comments and insight on this and people-categorisation generally. Appreciate any further comments you may have, cheers. --cjllw | TALK 06:49, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Hey Rockero. On closer inspection you are right, and Cat:Native American people is indeed being used now solely for folks from the US. So it does seem as if a Cat:Indigneous people of the Americas super-cat would be called for, though I wish I could think of a better name - any ideas?
As for general assistance, I'm not sure if you've seen the developments at WikiProject Mesoamerica - I've been progressively expanding on this, and there are a few specific tasks and workspaces now defined, and it would be great if you were able to review, comment and help out on a few of these, given your interest and expertise in the area. One recent functionality added is a rating and assessment scheme for Mesoamerica-related articles, so these are ready to be assessed if you'd like to help. All the best, --cjllw | TALK 06:31, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the notification. I did not notice the discussion on the talk pages, I just saw the introductory paragraph that discusses Chicano slang. Thanks, and I will keep that in mind from now on--Merkurix 04:00, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chicano
Hi Rockero. I just wanted to commend you on the edits you made on the Chicano article. I haven't had a chance to analyze those changes, but the article is easier to read and seems more accurate and balanced. Deepstratagem 10:09, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- I commented to your comment on my page. :-) I just created a couple of article stubs. Mexican American writers and Cosmic race. --evrik 14:51, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chicano Etymology
Hey Rockero under the Etymology it says "chicamo", is it supposed to be spelled that way or "chicano" i didn't want to change it without knowing if it was correct or not.--ChicanoJ 12:26, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- Gamio says it was with an "m".--Rockero 15:32, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Alright, thx Rockero. Always like to check it with you first--ChicanoJ 08:17, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] A Question on the Virgin of Guadalupe
Hi Rockero, just a quick question that I couldn't find the answer to in the article. How long was it between the apparitions to Juan Diego and public interest in them? Did this happen immediately, in December 1531 or shortly thereafter? Rbraunwa 15:54, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Gracias. --Cefaro 02:43, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Joan Little
Damn! My browswer (at least I guess it's my browser) has done that twice now. Since the first time, I try to check before saving, but I guess I forgot here. I'm glad you caught it. Good article, by the way. I remember when she was in the news. Rbraunwa 15:59, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks! I was wondering if anybody remembered her... I wonder if her obit will make the national news when she passes on?--Rockero 16:37, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- I was going to point you in the direction of Yvonne Wanrow (a somewhat similar case from about the same time), but I see Wikipedia already has an article on her, and you've done some editing on it. Wanrow was from my home state of Washington. Her case was big news there.

[edit] Border Garbage
This says it all: Garbage on the Border. Filthy diapers, Kotex pads, used toilet paper, human feces all over the place, even on some plants, incl. some cacti. Several sites have shown this all over the place, w/ placards saying, "Border is Trashed, Where the F*ing Hell are the Environmentalists". The guy making the commentary says illegals are trashing the Border. Is this useful in Wikipedia ? Do a Google Search: Trash on Mexican Border reveals some of the websites accusing "undocumented" personnel leaving this mess all over the place. Martial Law 20:33, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- It's an opinion piece, ML. We should prefer hard news for article sources. Are you trying to push an agenda?--Rockero 21:32, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- NO. I am in one of "the Border states", Texas, and I hear these reports, and I've seen garbage scattered all over the place myself, then when I ask about it, which I have, I've been told the above, worse. Most of the Ranchers here don't call for the Sheriff, they grab a .410 or a 12 ga., .45 cal and/or a .44 cal weapons instead. They believe that they have been betrayed by the govt. In Texas it is legal to kill tresspassers, and "Texans" will shoot. I used to live in this state myself when I was a kid, and when I had a horriffic UFO encounter, the neighbors showed up ARMED. Oh, by the way, have you heard about a "vigilante" organization called Ranch Rescue ? Some ranchers call these people in to remove illegal aliens, squatters, and they forcibly remove said personnel. Some of the garbage could be from some members of the people watching the border, especially the US made beer cans. Seen those as well. Martial Law 19:16, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- You can do a Google Search on Ranch Rescue to find more info. By the way, most of the garbage found may be from Whites, such as prospectors. Some do this out of spite to tick off environmentalists. You'll have to excuse my sig. Something is screwing up my sig and keeps logging me out. Martial Law 18:21, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] MEChA logo
Huh, i guess it must be your birthday, as evidenced by the above. Happy birthday! I just wanted to stop by to let you know that I just posted a request on the MEChA talk page for someone with actual knowledge to add a MEChA logo that is fairly representative of "the average logo," as the one i added a while back apparently wasn't. Thought you would probably have the requisite knowledge and be interested. Thanks! TheKaplan 02:56, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chat
Como estas, amigo? I wrote a new article to honor our Hispanic heros and that I believe you will like. Hispanics awarded the Medal of Honor. Notice that the majority of the Hispanics awarded the MOH were either Mexican or Mexican-American. I saw what is going on in the Spanish Wikipedia in regard to Rafael Peralta and I tell you it's a shame that some people should want to delete it because of their own political agenda. I didn't participate because I'm not a member of the Spanish Wiki. I told Mucierago (Batman), that it is incredible that we have more Hispanic related articles in the English Wiki then the Spanish one. Tu amigo, Tony the Marine 06:18, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Oh yeah, A Happy Belated Birthday
[edit] Thank you ...
The bienvenido was appreciated. I feel like a Wikipedian now! ;) We'll see how long it is before I actually create an article from scratch, though.
Did you notice me on account of the LA edit? I'm hoping to really improve some of the sections in the Los Angeles article, primarily the history section ... there's no reason why the article on LA shouldn't be a featured article! --ThatBajoranGuy 10:01, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ranch Rescue
Done a Google search on the vigilante organization: Ranch Rescue. Known contact info is www.ranchrescue.com Some Hondurans who were in the U.S. illegally had encountered these people when one or more members stuck a gun in their face. I am in Texas and the ranchers call these people to remove illegal aliens, sqatters, often having them removed @ gunpoint. When I first heard about this outfit, it was on the news, and it was about a civil matter concerning a Honduran national who was sueing them, because a member had stuck a gun in their face, said a racially loaded profanity, and told this national to get the (expletive) out of "this" area - or else. Is there a article about this organization ? Martial Law 17:39, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- No, not yet. Would you be so kind as to write it for us?--Rockero 17:41, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Done so. Tried to keep it NPOV as possible. Having a Admin checking it. Martial Law 18:00, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- Do have to let you know, there is some shocking matter in it, such as ranchers accusing the U.S. govt. of betraying them, and stating that they have been shot at by Mexican Soldiers, worse. Please don't harm the messenger. Martial Law 18:04, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

- Nice job on the article. By the way, Happy Birthday. Better late than never. Martial Law 18:32, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Henrymark
Hi, there. In late may you blocked User:Henrymark for making edits to Latino violating WP:3RR. He has recently come back to the article and continued with his edits, and still has not made a single visit to the talk page of the article. Is there anything else that can be done about him, as all attempts at speaking with him so far have failed completely (he hasn't responded to a single note on his own talk page, either)? I am beginning to think a logner block may be required to get him to speak. Thanks. Cowman109Talk 15:20, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Trail of Broken Treaties
Hi, I've made a Trail of Broken Treaties article...if you can help fix it up or come up with a cat or two for it, that would be great. Maybe it could fit into some kind of cat for 1972 events as well. Badagnani 00:16, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
