Welcome to my talk page. Please leave messages below.
- If you want to start a new discussion thread, please start it at the bottom of the page. Better yet, use the "+" tab next to the "edit this page" tab, which will do that automatically.
- If you post a message on this page, I'll reply on this page to avoid fragmenting the discussion. (This is effective '06Apr27, so discussion threads prior to that date may be fragmented.)
- If I've left you a message on your talk page, I will be watching it, so please reply there rather than here.
- If appropriate, I will move discussion threads from here to the relevant article talk page, so that everyone can share in the discussion.
(My thanks to User:JimWae. The introduction of his talk page was the basis for the above introduction.) --J. J. 21:35, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Direction on MediaWiki templating, Listing of subpages?
Sorry, basically whatever formatting styles are in the template are hard-coded, so you can't, for example, change Template:Babel-3 to float to the left instead of to the right. That's why I couldn't embed that template into my userpage.
- Well, actually there is way around of it :o) try the following code --TarmoK 19:44, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
<div style="float:left;width:242px;margin-right:1em;">{{Babel-4|en|fr-1|es-1|fox}}</div>
As for that logo page: when you embed a thumbnail of an image into a page here at Wikipedia, the MediaWiki software actually creates a smaller copy of that image. You may have noticed that, if you click on the logos at Template:WikipediaSister (which is embedded into the front page), you're taken to image description pages, not to the wikis themselves. Back when I created this page, there was a loophole that allowed you to include external images simply by writing out their URLs (without brackets of any kind) – some loophole, eh? Since WikipediaSister was at the time unprotected (at Wikipedia and elsewhere), I exploited that loophole so that users could click on the logos to go directly to the wikis themselves.
Since then, obviously, the MediaWiki developers have closed that loophole. It's kind of unfortunate that they haven't yet included a way of linking images to something other than their description pages; however, the logos on the main Wikipedia portal do link directly to the wikis, since that portal is a static XHTML page.
As for my username: I intended for my username to be "mxn", my initials. But I didn't realize at the time that MediaWiki automatically capitalizes usernames as well as page titles. (They added that notice later.)

Ah, almost forgot: the only way to list a user's subpages right now is to embed Special:Allpages, like this: {{Special:Allpages/User:RockOfVictory}}
. Unfortunately, it lists an entire page of entries, so it's probably just better to link to that page. There is a bug request for this, and an extension to MediaWiki that'll do it, but that extension hasn't been installed on the Wikimedia sites yet. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs, blog) 01:25, 11 September 2005 (UTC)
A comment posted to Bug 233 suggests this page, which doesn't work perfectly yet, but is a step in the right direction. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs, blog) 19:24, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
- Making progress. Thanks for keeping me up to speed! --J. J. 20:18, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Choice of Link
I got a good chuckle out of your choice of target for the link you made of the word "extremists" in the comment you left on my talk page. Take a look at Category talk:Born-again Christians. Only such dispute I've had on Wikipedia, actually, but yeah, there's that. The Literate Engineer 06:47, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Tracking down Tennesseeans
You caught me about 3 months too late, though I hope you noticed on my user page that I haven't started doing anything boorish like posting in Alabama crimson or anything :) — Lomn | Talk / RfC 23:02, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
Not I; never even been near there (well, does Phoenix, Arizona count :-) why did you think so? Best of luck anyway. Maybe I'll get a chance to visit eventually. Mozzerati 14:16, September 11, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Trying to get on Toothpaste's good side too, huh?
Ya, well she does look sexy in her pics! That trips me out about the music thing too. She said that once in mIRC, I still think she is lying. That's why I did that. I just hope she's not deaf or something, then I would feel awkward. 8*) - R Lee E (talk, contribs) 02:45, September 10, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Treo 700
Yes, the official press release from PalmOne states that the new model will be the Treo 700; the Windows Mobile version is the Treo 700w, and the Palm version is the plain old Treo 700. I'm hoping T-Mobile will carry 'em in time for me to get it next year as my customer loyalty upgrade, replacing my Treo 600. --WyldStallionRyder 04:59, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

The Treo 700w name is confirmed by Verizon, listed in the "Coming Soon!" section of their website. I've updated the Treo article to reflect this. Just thought I'd let you know. --WyldStallionRyder 05:39, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] History of the English Bible
I was trying to follow your changes to this needy article. Are you merging two articles or copying text from another? Which one? Is it linked to from the "History..." article? Rmhermen 16:29, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
- I added a link from "History of the English Bible" to "Bible translations". I would like to see more of a summary than the current two short sentences in the Bible translations#English section but I think that you were correct to move the majority of the text. [edit] Stephen Gilbert's Response
Hi J.J. Re: themessage you left on my page, I'm afraid you misread this edit history. I was simply moving that user page to the User: namespace after we made the switchover to our new software in 2002. Also, I'm from New Brunswick, Canada, which is rather far from Nashville. :) -- Stephen Gilbert 12:23, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Chinese font
Hmmm... I don't think there's a tutorial. In the meantime, do you use Firefox? Go to Tools > Options > General > Fonts and Colors. Select one of the Chinese options. What do you see as the fonts listed? -- ran (talk) 03:31, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
So is the font you got displayed anywhere in the listed fonts? If not, try selecting it and see what happens when you load a Chiense website. -- ran (talk) 06:03, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- I stumbled upon this request about Chinese fonts. This should do you up: Start - Control Panel - Date, language and regional options - Add other languages - check the boxes on the bottom half of the box and hit OK. SchmuckyTheCat 21:05, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advice, but what I should have asked is, "What is the best way to use different Asian and other international fonts?" This applies to Windows XP as a whole, as well as the different browsers I often use on it. The automatic chinese.yahoo.com font install works for me, but the Heidelberg font options look like they'd be more fun to use. Schmucky, the XP Control Panel is a little different, FYI. --J. [edit] Cite book template on Du Bois
re: Books by W.E.B DuBois - cite book template applied)-- Hi, would you tell me what this template is, where to find it and what it does? I'm not sure I see a difference but wanted to check. tx skywriter 01:00, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
- I made mention of the template and its use in biographic listings on this Talk page. --J. J. 01:19, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] re:image problme
It's nothing to do with your computer, because im having the same problme with the images i'm uploading right now. However, I dont know why there is a problme, try asking on the help desk--The Editor1(Talk) 19:25, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, seems to have fixed itself within a few minutes. --J. J. 15:07, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Good luck
Good luck J.J. with where-ever your wiki editing takes you. I'm sorry that you felt WikiChristian was not for you. Perhaps you'll find what you're looking for at Wikia (christianity.wikia.com) or Wikible or another. In any case, thanks for your suggestions and work at WikiChristian and good luck with where-ever you continue. Graham
[edit] Technical communicator vocation?
Hey J.J.,
Well, in my mind, "technical communicator" is just a fancy word for "technical writer". I basically do all the duties that a technical writer does, documenting processes, reviewing stuff that other people write, and so on. I usually write using DITA, but I do not work full time editing sites like Wikipedia. As a result of my experience with wikis, I do maintain a couple of internal wikis for my company, but that's about as close as it gets. When I come on Wikipedia, I actually don't bring too much of my work experience with me (apart from doing light editing as I read articles): the only time I've really brought my work experience into Wikipedia was when I helped evaluate the external links and edit the content in DITA. Hope that helps, and if you have any other questions, please let me know. --Deathphoenix ʕ 17:08, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hey JJ
We didn't do that footnote job eventually... Many bugs have already been repaired though. I also found ways to workaround certain problems. See featured (at last) Macedonia (terminology) for examples on those workarounds. I wanted you for a totally different thing:
Since you are apparently more involved in these issues, could you give a look to this edit of mine? I wouldn't want to misinterpret anything (actually I am quoting someone), but it seems it is 100% applicable...•NikoSilver• 12:27, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Take a look at my revision. Two things I wanted to mention for clarification, though. (1) If you were quoting directly from Horton's book, that's the King James version of the Bible, not the NRSV that you cited. I fixed the citation to match the version (BibleGateway.com is the standard online Bible reference site). (2) Your comment about "the seven cities that suffered the most" is probably an inaccurate interpretation. I guess Horton doesn't mention anything else about the quote? Otherwise, I wouldn't read too much into it since the seven churches were simply meant to be an example of the types of Christians that exist in the world. Hope that helps! --J. J. 14:10, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

- Right in all accounts. Horton continues with a map that associates the two and probably has no idea of the seven types etc. See here Thanks! •NikoSilver• 16:05, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
