Rockmart is a city in Polk County, Georgia, United States. The population was 3,870 at the 2000 census.

Rockmart is located at 34°0′14″N, 85°2′57″W (34.003952, -85.049202)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.3 km² (4.4 mi²). 11.2 km² (4.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (0.69%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 3,870 people, 1,541 households, and 1,027 families residing in the city. The population density was 344.3/km² (892.0/mi²). There were 1,681 housing units at an average density of 149.5/km² (387.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 79.82% White, 18.48% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.39% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.50% of the population.

There were 1,541 households out of which 31.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.6% were married couples living together, 16.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% were non-families. 29.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.04.

In the city the population was spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 84.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $32,171, and the median income for a family was $36,906. Males had a median income of $31,714 versus $22,381 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,272. About 12.8% of families and 16.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 21.3% of those under age 18 and 14.4% of those age 65 or over.
